Hi-Performance Feeds is a family owned and managed feed mill. It has its roots firmly set in the Meyerton area and has become somewhat of a landmark in the community.
HI-PERFORMANCE FEEDS
The farm started as a pig farm in 1972 but as the piggery grew the demand for cheaper pig feed became apparent. The first formulas where sourced and mixing began with a old Hippo Mixer.
The Hippo Hammer mill sorted all the milling needs and became a major part of the mixing facility. Many days were spent fixing the screens after a bolt or nut went through it.
As production grew it was apparent that expansion was the only way forward. The first mill that was erected helped push the production past the 1000 ton per month mark. At this point the piggery had taken a step back and feed milling became the new priority.
As the feed manufacturing grew, it became apparent that a form of quality testing would have to be done and maintained. A feed lot for sheep and cattle was built and the new formulas were being tested. Broiler houses were also erected and the rations put through their paces.
It soon became apparent that all the knowledge obtained through the differant test areas could be shared with new and old farmers.
Farmer information days are held throughout the year where the basics of differant animal farming is discussed and the opportunity is given to new and young farmers to ask questions regarding the farming activity they are involved in.
